The Thrill of the Chase
Pursuing ideas, writing, and creativity in a new, handy-dandy newsletter
I still get excited about stuff. Maybe too excited. I am a grown-ass adult, after all.
Yet. Every brilliant book, new song, writing tip, food revelation, comedy clip, or spiritual insight I discover - I want to share. Like, now. With the same unbridled enthusiasm of a new vegan (but not as aggravating) or a the pushiness of a desperate dealer (but not as destructive. Or druggy).
You must see this…you gotta try this…you need to hear this. It will change your life!
My family is tired of hearing this. They’ve been promised a life shift so many times, their eyes now glaze over every time I rave about something (how can a Japanese mayonnaise change a life? Easy, I say). So now I have a new venue — this newsletter — to parcel out my passions and chase the curious and creative.
Welcome to The Chase.
The Chase also a newsletter in which to write. Writing and reading fuel so many crucial parts of me, it’s time to just publish stuff between my bread-and-butter professional writing and chipping away at my creative non-fiction book.
The Chase will feature creative writing, essays, reviews, recommendations, interviews, lists, and observations. It will be irreverent, truthful, open-minded, and hopefully, once in a while, insightful for myself and a few others.
But The Chase is also a two-way street. As self-proclaimed ‘distractible cartoonist’ Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell reminded writers today, “you can’t have output without input.” So I need to chase what moves you too. And that’s why the comments section in this newsletter are welcome and essential to its momentum. I truly want to engage, not merely write at you.
This is the first post. Now I will continue to chase what moves me. I hope you’ll join me.
